The gear transmission has no overload protection and does not have self-locking performance. The single-stage reducer can get a large transmission ratio (generally 5~100), compact structure, stable transmission, low noise, and large speed ratio can achieve self-locking performance. 5. Disadvantages of worm drive:

The transmission meshing efficiency is relatively low, and the larger the speed ratio, the lower the efficiency. The helical gear reducer cannot be self-locking, that is to say, the driven variable is active and the active variable is driven; while the worm gear reducer can be self-locking, only the worm is active and the worm gear is driven, which is irreversible. And the former allows long-running, the latter does not allow long-running. The former has higher transmission efficiency, while the latter has lower transmission efficiency, which means that the former generates less heat, while the latter generates more heat and needs more lubrication.
