Delivery of the world’s first 45T cycloid gear reducer

The world’s first 45T cycloid gear reducer was officially delivered and shipped in Hubei Swett Transmission Co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as Swett Transmission) manufacturing park on November 11. The International Thermonuclear Experiment Reactor (ITER) multifunctional mechanical arm will use China’s “joint”.

The gear reducer was developed by Hefei Institute of Physical Sciences of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Sweite Transmission after three and a half years of cooperation. It is the world’s first RV gear reducer with maximum load, which integrates high precision, large reduction ratio and super torque, marking a major breakthrough in the field of RV gear reducer in China.
As a precise power transmission mechanism, RV reducer is the core component of industrial robot, known as the “joint” of industrial robot. The 45T cycloid gear reducer has a maximum load capacity of 450,000 Newton-meters, and the bearing equipment error is less than 5 arc-minutes. It will be used in the multifunctional heavy load manipulator in nuclear environment.
The ITER project is one of the largest and most far-reaching international scientific research cooperation projects in the world, according to Yao Damao, a researcher at the Hefei Institute of Physical Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The multi-functional heavy-load manipulator for the maintenance of internal components of the reactor is about 750mm in diameter, 11m in length and 2.5 tons in end-load.
Due to the special extreme environment inside the experimental reactor, the working accuracy of the manipulator is very high, which is a complicated test for the design and manufacture of the reducer inside the manipulator. “It requires the reducer to have high precision, super torque and a large reduction ratio at the same time, which is very difficult.” “Said Yao Damao.
In order to overcome this problem, the technical teams of both sides started from the material selection process and carried out continuous destructive tests to test its density, rigidity and overall combination of purchased parts. After hundreds of failures and nearly 50 material changes, the right material was finally found.
As one of the largest RV reducer manufacturers in China, the R&D team of Swett Transmission began to focus on RV reducer research and development as early as 2013. After nearly ten years of scientific research, the foreign technology monopoly has been broken at one stroke, now has formed 6 series of more than 300 varieties of powerful product genealogy, the R & D team in 2017 developed the world’s smallest known RV reducer, self-weight is only 0.37 kg, bearing weight is 45 newton-meters, accuracy is less than one 20th of a human hair.
